Our 1 hour / 7 mile round trips, originating from our station in downtown Byesville, offer a great opportunity to learn about our local history.  Our car attendants, who are dressed as old-time coal miners, narrate along the way and describe what it was like to work underground in the deep mines that once existed along our excursion route. Our coal miner-car attendants explain how the miners worked to mine the coal, and what the working conditions were like underground. They will show actual coal mining tools and relics from the early 1900's, such as picks, shovels, augers, tamping bars, copper needles, miner's check tags and carbide lamps. Our coal miner-car attendants will also talk about the coal miner's life at home as well as their traditions and customs.
